Professor Paolo Vineis

Professor Paolo Vineis was appointed as a member in April 2005. He is an M.D. and an epidemiologist. He has been Associate Professor of Biostatistics at the University of Torino, Italy. Now he is Professor of Environmental Epidemiology at Imperial College London, and Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at Columbia University (New York). He has been President of the Italian Association of Epidemiology, and member of the Scientific Council of the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Since 1992 he has coordinated the Turin section of the large EPIC study, a prospective study on diet and cancer. His main fields of research are in molecular epidemiology, in particular projects on the effects of air pollution and environmental tobacco smoke nested within EPIC, studies on the formation of haemoglobin and DNA adducts in relation to tobacco smoking, studies on gene-environment interactions, and on antioxidants and antimutagens in fruits and vegetables.
